My Lastest Project

Wednesday, December 1st, 2010

Go, go, go (but what FUN, FUN, FUN it has been) the past few months.  More on that in the next few posts.  Today I wanted to share with you what I was working on last week.  For the past 2 1/2 years I have been serving in the Young Women at church and on Nov. 14 I was released.  Thepresident (Jana Lindberg) and her family are moving on Dec. 1.   At the last Wednesday night activity (Nov. 10) that my age group of girls (Mia Maids – 14 & 15 year olds) were in charge we decided to have all the girls decorate blocks and then I would make them into a quilt.  We had not yet figured out how we were going to keep Sis. Lindberg from see us make the blocks at the activity, but I was so busy getting ready for our family vacation to Disney World that I really did not give it much thought.  But, when Jana called on Wednesday afternoon and said that her brother had just arrived from Washington DC and would it be okay if she just stayed at home and visited with him – I tried to act cool about it, but I was quite relieve that she was not going to be at the church.

I left for Disney World on Saturday, Nov. 13 and returned home the next Saturday.  Needles to say, if I was going to get the project comleted by Nov. 28, I had to get busy really quick on this project because Nov. 28 was the Lindberg’s last Sunday in our ward.  I was totally exhaused from our trip and just did not have the engery to push those first few days.  But, the Queen of the Projects completes this quilt at Noon on Sunday morning (church starts at 1:00 – plenty of time).

I did not have to purchase anything to make this quilt.  (Tells you what a well stocked store I have in my baement.)  In fact, the fabrics that I used around the blocks have been used on two other projects.

Here are lose-ups of a few of the blocks:

I had a couple of extra blocks so I included this picture from girls camp on one.

Jana and the young women were please with the quilt.

2010 Girl’s Camp

Sunday, July 18th, 2010

We had some RAIN, HOT weather and lots of fun.  Here a few pictures.  I was having such a GREAT time that I forgot to take many pictures.

Thanks to all the young women in my ward and the stake for helping me to have such a wonderful time.

Can’t wait until next year.  I am going to continue to go to the gym so that  at next year’s kickball game I will  running the bases better.  Watch out!

Fund Raiser for Girl’s Camp

Monday, July 12th, 2010

Tommorow I am off to Girl’s Camp with the Young Women of our ward.  In June we had a Car Wash as a fund raiser to help pay for camp.  It’s fun to see the girls working and having fun together.  I almost think that I am toooooo old for this kind of stuff – but I guess not (or if I am I’ll let you know when I return).

I have heard a rumor that my twin may do some post while I am away.  Hope she is more active (on the blog) than I have been in the past few months.

Try to stay cool and enjoy life!

Ward Halloween Party

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

On Saturday our ward had a Halloween Party. The Young Women and Young Men were asked to decorate a scare hall and another room that wasn’t scary but fun for the little kids. This is the room that I got involved in.I gathered up a bunch of boxes on Thursday and Friday. Saturday morning we met at the church to construct the box maze. It was not actually a maze, but it separate into two routes and then came back together at the end. The picture above is the entrance. Rachell had brought a bunch of decorations that we used here and inside the boxes.

Moriah had brought a bunch of textures for the bottom to add interest while crawling. Cooked oatmeal in ziplock bags, cooked spagetti (in bags), crushed egg noodles and leaves. We decided to put the leaves directly in the boxes. It was alot of fun, but kind of a mess to clean up. Tom said that next year he was going to bring the leaf blower and just open the door and blow them outside. I had brought fall/Halloween fleece that I had and we used these to cover up the boxes. Some of the boxes did not have tops so this worked to enclose the maze but enable us to get inside and help a stranded victim if needed.

We used the chairs as support against the sides of the boxes. It turned out to be alot of fun. (Gave me my fill for decorating for Halloween this year. )

Here is Snow White……..

and one of the seven dwarfs.
(All seven of her children we dressed up as one of the seven dwarfs and her husband was the handsome prince.)

These young mothers had such creative ideas. Oh the good ole days………….I remember making alot of fun costumes (usually late into the nights before Halloween). Maybe if I can find some pictures I’ll do a Halloween post on Friday (but that was in the time if film and not digital).

The activities committee hosted a Chili cook off. Lots of good Chili. It was a fun evening.

Tied baby quilts

Wednesday, October 1st, 2008

Today I bound (by machine) the two baby quilts that the Young Women have been working on the past two weeks at our Wednesday night activity. Each quilt has the same flannel on the front and a different color of flannel on the back. Also the ties are different colors. My granddaughters love the tied quilts that I made for them when they were born. After washing these quilts some of the ties look like they are having a bad hair day, but they still look cute. Can’t wait to see you Baby X and Baby A. (I hope their mother isn’t reading this – think that might ruin the surprise!)

Work on my VSQ Challenge quilt continues but I am not at liberty to share the pictures as of yet. I have the post in draft form and it will post on Oct. 14. I think that I am almost done with the top and will be ready to start quilting soon. It is only 25″ square so I think it might get lost on George.
