Is there a cure for a "Hexamanic"?

Wednesday, August 5th, 2009
The Hexamania continues. I have been folding 4 1/2″ hexagons out of all different colored batiks and they will be used for…..
Hexapins“.

And you may be wondering what I am going to do with all these “Hexapins“.

A Hexamanic can never have to many “Hexapins”.
But really…………..
I am going to take them with to Houston to sale to unsuspecting quilters that are just waiting to be bitten by the “Hexabug“.

On Saturday Anne and I traveled to Hershey, PA for Quilt Odyssey for an outstanding show. Pictures from the show in a couple of days. While in Pennsylvania I purchased some wonderful batiks that were just asking to be made in to “Easy Does It Hexabags“.

One of the vendors was The Crazy Quilter owned by Alicia Whitehouse. What a delightful stop. She was selling these wonderful buttons. As soon as I saw them I knew that they would be the perfect embellishments for my new “Hexabags“. The buttons are so new that they are not on her website yet so you can just email (thecrazyquilter@charter.net) her to purchase them.

Well – back to the Hexastone (aka grind stone).

Clamshell Quilt Guild visit

Friday, October 10th, 2008

On Wednesday I was frantically printing patterns, packing for the lecture & workshop, and just running around like a chicken with its head cut-off. I ran out of 24 lb. papper and had to run to (actually I drove the car) Staples so I could complete the patterns. Then I started to work on packaging the supply kits to go with the workshop project and I didn’t have enough Peltex. Needless to say I don’t live in craft world central (maybe business world central) so this was a real problem. Luckily there was a JoAnn’s 1 mile from where I would be speaking so I was once again saved. (I now have a full bolt of it so this should keep me going for awhile.)

By the way, if you happen to go to Joann’s and forget your coupon – think about purchasing the magazine/booklet that Joann puts out. On the back cover are coupons, usually 2 – 50%; 2 – 40% off, and 2 – 30% off coupons. Needless to say, that paying $2.00 (+some cents) was well worth the 50% I saved on the bolt to Peltex. I figure that I came out ahead at least $30.00 head from my visit yesterday (And I still have some coupons left – that I will probably forget and leave at home).

I had a great visit to the Clamshell Quilt Guild. I love sharing The Legacy Lives On – Five Generations of Quilters. At times it amazes me that people actully pay me to do something that I enjoy so much. Then the fun just continued on Thursday when I taught the Hexabag workshop. There were eight wonderful ladies in the workshop. It was a delightful day. They worked hard and we had some good laughs.

On the way home I stopped in Branford, CT and joined Cher Hurney and Jackie Murphy (friends from QPN) for dinner. We went to Cher’s Country Club where we sat at a table that overlooked the water. It was a great dinner, the surroundings were great and the company and conversation was the best.

Now to clean the house – not much fun stuff to share about today (unless I do a reality post).

100th Post and FREE Giveaways!

Wednesday, September 10th, 2008

This is my 100th post. All the updating about redoing my studio has gotten me here alot faster than I thought. I started this blog in 2006 when I was working on my challenge quilt for the Village Squares Quilters show. The challenge quilt was Underwater Maddness. It was alot of fun working on it and by starting this blog I was able to share this fun project with my daughters who live over 3,000 miles away from me.

The blogging world has also helped me feel more connected with my extended family and friends. I have also found many fun sites that I love to read and see what quilting adventures others are working on.

This past week-end I completed the design for the newest in my line of Hexabags. I am teaching a workshop in Connecticut in October and wanted an easier (less folded hexagons) project. (See some of the other Hexabags on the past posts.) With this new project (only 2 folded hexagons) I think that most of the students should go home with a completed hexabag at the end of the workshop.

October Summer

Monday, October 8th, 2007
One thing that I think I appreciate more since living in the East is the Fall weather. It is such a relief after just enduring the HOT, HUMID, and HAZEY summers that we have. The air feels crisp and it seems so nice to have the windows open. I added the above statment to my draft earlier this week -, little did I know that the HOT, HUMID and HAZEY conditions were coming back with a vengence. Needles to say – the AC has been going in our house these past few days. But, I have been comfortable down sewing this week-end while Tom has been at a Scout Training (Wood Badge) program. I watched conference on my laptop and have been perfectly happy. Here are a few things that I have been working on:
Here is a picture of the Hexabag that I just completed for Autumn!
Next week I am teaching the Color Wheel Magic workshop for a guild in New Jersey.
I have been playing around with some other ideas of how I can use this technique. I also like to have a few different ideas to display at the workshop. Plus this helps me work out the bugs in the pattern.

I have also been piecing a quilt top (twin bed size) for the Verteran’s quilt project that Village Squares Quilter’s is working on. In White Plains – Common Grounds is creating a half-way house for veterans. They asked if VSQ quilters wouls make quilts for each of the beds. They need about 50 quilts by mid-December. No picture as of now, I will show one when I get it quilted.

We received an email with these adorable pictures of our Grandson – Ty! Cutest grandson I have!!!!!!!!

The Bag Lady

Wednesday, May 16th, 2007

I am beginning to fee like the bag lady. Today I was out working in the flower beds and a lady stopped by and wanted to thank me for selling her an American Girl Doll pattern last year. She then asked if I had any patterns for a bag that she could use to take to the city. Just the type of question the “BAG” lady like to hear. I then went in the house and came out with my HexabagsTM. She liked them and wante to make one. Well, I told her that I am working on the pattern but it will be a couple of weeks until it is ready.

Yesterday I was wondering why I ever thought I could publish a pattern. I guess I want my patterns to be very well written and not leave someone scratching their head wondering what they should do next. Needless to say, this is a very labor intensive project. But, then later I printed out what I had done already and put the pages in one of the official plastic bags, and it looked pretty good.

These are two of my latest HexabagsTM. I have some ideas for othe bags but I keep telling myself that I need to complete the patterns that I am working on before I go on to another bag.

Tom and I went to Utah for Jason’s graduation and Ty’s baby blessing. It’s great to be with the Grandkids (and their parents).

Here is Grandpa and Grandma with our three grandchildren. , Prairie (almost 1 year old at the time of the picture) , Ty (born March 9, 2007) and Autumn (3 years old)

Here is Autumn playing with a little table and chair that her Aunt Christy gave her for her dolls.

Back to the Studio (FINALLY)

Friday, February 2nd, 2007

During the first part of the January I was playing catch-up with all my accounting information. I am pretty organized now and want to keep it that way.

Here is the new sample for the Free Motion Fantasy quilting workshop that I offer. I taught my first workshop of 2007 and used my video camera with the projector for the demonstrations. It was great! It was like all 12 students were the one student that puts their head in front of all the other students so no one else can see. Everyone sat in their seats and watch the demonstartion with great clarity.

I am thankful to the QuiltTeach yahoo group that I belong to and Bonnie MacCaffery for sharing a picture of the set-up that she uses. After looking at her picture Tom was able to use parts from a broken tripod and swing arm lamp to make using the camera even better. I can’t wait to use it for the Hands-on-Demo for the Needle and Thread Approach to the Folded Hexagon. Here is my latest project that I have completed yesterday. I made a color wheel like this about 1 1/2 years ago, but I only had 32 flying geese in the outer circle, so when I sewed the other circle onto the inner circle I had to offset the colors you it wouldn’t notice there was not three of each of the inner circle colors. I wanted to make one with the 36 flying geese (light, medium, and dark of each of the 12 colors in the center) and have the colors next to each other in the inner circle and outer circle. So, finally it’s completed. Just in time for the next MAQGNet resouce brouchure.
Here are a couple of pictures of my newest Hexabags (TM). Now to get the patterns made for them. I hope Tom is ready for this next adventure since he is my #1 editor and finds all my erros and inconsistencies.

This Hexabag (TM) was the result of a pincushion challenge at Empire Quilters. I decided that I would make my pincushion from folded hexagons. Well as my pincushion was sitting on the table I thought that would make a cute bag, all I would need to do was add a zipper and make the hexagons larger. So here it is!
