Carma Mortensen was the oldest of seven children.  In 1942 she married Henry Dean Ricks.

She loved loved to sew and quilt.  She used the scraps from her daughters clothing to make each of them a Sunbonnet Sue quilt.  The lavender dress is from Mary Anne's very first sewing project.

She followed the example of her mother and grandmother by making a quilt for each of her grand-daughters as a wedding gift.  She loved to do embroidery work.  Each of the 11 grand-daughters quilts have 12 embroidered blocks.

When there was a new baby born, she always had a quilt to give as a gift.  In the early 80's she went to Africa on a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  While there she purchased a hand-crank machine and taught the native women how to make baby quilts.

During the later years of her life, she made A LOT of nine-patch quilts from 100% polyester double-knit fabrics.  Using the fabrics she had in her basement made her very happy.
